Ministry of Culture Empowers Street Musicians with New Creative Tools

KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon took direct action to boost the local music scene by presenting 50 musicians with new performance equipment at the Graha Utama Building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 22, 2025.

By providing 45 portable karaoke sets and five acoustic guitars, the Ministry is investing in the necessary facilities for musicians to professionalize their craft and revitalize public spaces through cultural expression.

Minister Fadli encouraged the recipients to strengthen their professional networks to further their careers. “I hope that in the future, you all can also organize and increase your institutional capacity. With an organization, the capacity of members can be improved through training and workshops,” he explained, as quoted by Antara.

The Ministry recognizes that public spaces are vital hubs for cultural expression and talent development. He noted that his ministry has a specific program to activate these areas, acknowledging that street musicians are an inseparable part of the public sphere.

By providing these tools, the government seeks to reach street musicians more broadly to ensure they can continue their work sustainably. He emphasized that this initiative serves as a form of official recognition and respect for the cultural activities these artists perform daily.

Director of Facilities and Infrastructure at the Ministry, Feri Arlius explained that his team conducted direct field visits to identify and curate the recipients of this aid. This hands-on approach ensured that the support reached those who are actively performing in open community spaces.

Feri expressed his hope that this equipment would serve as a catalyst for increased creative output among local artists. “We hope this assistance can provide a boost and encouragement for musicians to continue working, be more active in various artistic activities, and the Ministry of Culture will always be present to enliven existing public spaces,” he added.

Through this facility distribution, the Ministry aims to improve the quality of artistic works and strengthen solidarity within the street music community. The Ministry's presence in the midst of the artistic community highlights a commitment to supporting those who express themselves in open public areas.

The Ministry expressed belief that providing creative spaces for artists is a crucial agenda for developing adaptive and open public environments. These spaces are not only important for talent development but also function as a vital medium for channeling community aspirations.

Ultimately, the revitalization of public spaces is expected to generate both economic and cultural value for society and local communities. This strategic support ensures that the nation's cultural roots remain strong and economically viable for those involved. ***
