KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Government, through the National Disaster Management (BNPB) Authority, has initiated an accelerated post-disaster recovery phase in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The construction of Temporary Housing is being fast-tracked, and logistics distribution is being expanded as transportation access reopens.
Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, made the statement during a disaster management update press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/24/2025).
He reported that 12 districts/cities have transitioned from emergency response status to emergency transition. This shift has prompted the government to begin residential construction for affected communities.
BNPB targets a massive rollout of temporary housing construction in key areas by late December. One of the pilot projects is located in Palembayan, Agam District, West Sumatra.
"At one site in Palembayan, Agam District, there are 117 units. Construction is currently being pushed, and we expect it to be completed by January 2 at the latest, or two days after the New Year," Abdul Muhari stated in his remarks. He added that the work is being carried out intensively with 24-hour shifts.
For residents in areas that do not propose the construction of temporary housing, the government has prepared a "Housing Waiting Fund" (DTH) scheme of IDR 600,000 per month per household. This allowance is provided so that residents can stay temporarily with family members while awaiting the permanent housing repair process.
Entering the third and fourth weeks of disaster management, BNPB is also optimizing logistics distribution patterns to meet non-food needs. The distribution of mattresses, blankets, and clothing is now prioritized, especially for groups with special needs.
Muhari conveyed that the National Logistics Cluster based in Halim, Jakarta, has distributed 1,296 tons of aid out of a total of 1,354 tons received, with a remaining buffer stock of 58 tons. To speed up the flow, BNPB is operating daily logistics hubs in each provincial capital, with average daily distributions reaching between 8 to 13 tons per province.
Besides, the government conducted a land route trial via the Lhokseumawe-Bener Meriah main road to reach previously isolated areas in Bener Meriah and Central Aceh. This effort successfully delivered 8,000 liters of fuel via truck, following a period where the region relied solely on air shipments through Rembele Airport.
"In addition to using aircraft for air routes to transport fuel, this land route will be a vital alternative. This is because the tonnage we can carry is much larger by land than by air," Muhari explained.
Beyond road infrastructure, the government has also stationed a fleet of planes and helicopters to support medical evacuations for residents requiring referrals to major hospitals in Banda Aceh in Aceh or Medan in North Sumatra.
