Ministry and Telkomsel Dispatch Aid for Sumatra Network Recovery

KBRN, Jakarta: In a coordinated effort to stabilize communication for flood and landslide victims, 100 generators and 500 mobile phones were dispatched to Sumatra by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) alongside Telkomsel on Monday, December 22, 2025.

The aid package, which was shipped from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta, also includes 50 batteries and 50 rectifiers. It is being deployed specifically to prioritized areas with the lowest recovery rates, ensuring that both technical infrastructure and field coordination teams have the power and hardware needed to function.

Director General of Public Communication and Media at the Ministry, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, explained that the shipment will focus on regions with the lowest recovery rates. "So, we will focus the delivery of these generators on accelerating recovery in the Aceh region; currently, our work will focus on recovery in the Aceh Tamiang, Gayo Lues, and Bener Meriah areas," Fifi said, on Monday, as quoted by Antara.

The power generators will serve as backup energy supplies to revive inactive telecommunications infrastructure and meet community needs. Meanwhile, the 500 mobile phones are intended for disaster recovery teams to facilitate field coordination, though some units will also be distributed to residents who lack communication tools.

Regarding the current status in Sumatra, Fifi noted that network recovery has reached 97 percent in North Sumatra and 99 percent in West Sumatra, while Aceh stands at approximately 80 percent.

"With the delivery of these 100 generators, we can accelerate our mutual efforts to provide telecommunications recovery because the goal is for people in Aceh, or those affected by floods and landslides, to be able to communicate with their families or other parties well and calmly," she remarked.

Director of Human Capital Management at Telkomsel, Indrawan Ditapradana, clarified that this shipment represents the fourth wave of aid following previous deliveries on December 15, 16, and 17, 2025. He confirmed that the recovery priority remains on three specific districts in Aceh: Aceh Tamiang, Gayo Lues, and Bener Meriah.

Indrawan ensured that all telecommunications facilities provided through this program are available for free to the affected communities.

"Because we understand that telecommunications facilities are the backbone for recovery, the backbone for coordination, and there is another factor, which is to bring happiness to the community because they can communicate with distant family members and strengthen one another," he explained.

Telkomsel is also preparing a fifth wave of assistance, which includes 500 copies of the Al-Quran, 500 prayer mats, 500 prayer robes, and 3,000 sets of new clothing. This humanitarian aid is scheduled for delivery on Friday, December 26, 2025, to further support the psychological and spiritual well-being of the victims. ***
