Banten Police Evacuate Residents Following Lebak Regency Landslide

KBRN, Serang: The Banten Regional Police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) has launched an emergency response operation in Sukatani Village, Lebak Regency, as heavy rains trigger dangerous soil movement and block vital transportation arteries.

In a race against worsening weather conditions, specialized units are prioritizing the immediate evacuation of residents to safeguard lives against the looming threat of secondary landslides.

Commanding the operation, Head of the Banten Mobile Brigade, Sr. Com. Imam Suhadi, deployed a 10-man specialized team to the disaster zone on Monday, December 29, 2025. This rapid response unit is tasked with navigating unstable terrain to relocate vulnerable families while simultaneously clearing massive debris that has paralyzed local infrastructure.

To expedite the recovery, the team is working closely with Cibeber Subdistrict officials to bring in heavy machinery.

"The Brimob SAR (Search and Rescue) team is coordinating with Cibeber Subdistrict administration agencies to deploy excavators to reopen road access currently buried under landslide material," said Imam Suhadi, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that the evacuation process is being conducted through a coordinated effort using both specialized and manual tools. This approach is a necessary precaution given the fragile ground conditions and persistent drizzle that could trigger further collapses.

Beyond the humanitarian rescue, the Mobile Brigade is managing a complex traffic crisis to prevent accidents in the high-risk zone. Personnel, in collaboration with the Cibeber Police Precinct, have been forced to implement a total traffic diversion on the Cisungsang–Cisitu main road.

Commuters are being redirected to alternative routes to ensure that the flow of traffic remains steady while heavy clearing operations proceed. Imam emphasized that this deployment is a fundamental pillar of the National Police's commitment to public service during times of crisis.

"The presence of Mobile Brigade personnel in the midst of disaster-affected communities is a manifestation of the Police's devotion to the people, in line with our motto, which is 'My Soul and Body for Humanity'," he remarked. ***
