Ministry Prioritizes Rapid Power Grid Restoration After Sumatra Disasters

KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung announced a rapid recovery plan for the region's power grid while accompanying the Vice President on a working visit to North Tapanuli on Monday, December 22, 2025.

Following a series of devastating landslides and floods, the Ministry is mobilizing resources to reconnect households that were cut off from the grid after distribution lines were physically destroyed by the disaster.

Yuliot noted that several areas remain disconnected from the power grid following the natural disasters that struck the region. He emphasized that this issue is a primary concern for the government as it works to rehabilitate various districts impacted by the events.

"There are several areas whose conditions require attention because many houses are not yet connected to electricity due to distribution lines being washed away or destroyed by landslides," he explained, as quoted by Antara

Consequently, he asserted that the central government will undertake various measures to return the community's electricity supply to normal.

"My visit is part of a series accompanying the Vice President. In the directives provided, the needs of the community must be served," he concluded.

The Ministry is currently prioritizing the repair of distribution networks to ensure that households can regain access to essential power services as quickly as possible. ***
