RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Johan Rosihan, has warned the government to be vigilant about the impact of geopolitical conflict in the Middle East on national food security. Johan also highlighted the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, now involving the United States.

As quoted by the website dpr.go.id, he delivered the statement at the Nusantara II Building, Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. According to him, the situation has the potential to surge global oil prices and directly impact the domestic food sector.

“The impact of the war between Iran and Israel and the involvement of the United States needs to be seriously observed by the government. It will affect global oil prices, and that will influence both distribution costs and our food production costs,” he conveyed.

He reminded that although the government claims food stock availability is sufficient during Ramadan, the real-world challenge is not only about the amount of supply, but rather about distribution and price stability.

“If this is not anticipated, then even if we have large stocks, as the government claimed at the beginning of Ramadan, that our stock is sufficient, the problem is the price surge in markets. One of the causes is the inadequate distribution,” Johan affirmed.

He has further said that rising oil prices will increase logistics costs and potentially hinder the distribution of food supplies to various regions. If not anticipated early, this condition could worsen price disparities between regions.

“With rising oil prices, this will later affect and potentially hinder our distribution due to increased distribution costs. This must be anticipated quickly and not handled proactively,” he mentioned.

In addition, Johan emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic production and reducing dependence on imports. He believes that food sovereignty policies must be positioned as an integral part of national resilience.

“This is also an alarm for us to remain focused on domestic production and not depend on imports. Our food sovereignty policy must be included within the framework of national resilience,” he said.

According to the legislator, Commission IV of the House will continuously push the government to take anticipatory measures so that global turmoil does not lead to severe pressure on farmers and consumers in the country.
