KBRN, Yogyakarta: Domestic tourists from across Indonesia have begun flocking to Yogyakarta ahead of New Year’s celebrations. The cultural city has once again become a favorite destination thanks to its distinctive atmosphere, diverse attractions, and convenient accessibility.
Several popular areas have been crowded since the weekend, particularly Malioboro, the Tugu Monument, and culinary hubs that come alive at night. Visitors are drawn to the city’s festive ambiance, its wide range of food options, and the anticipation of welcoming the New Year.
Heriyanto Mukti, a tourist from Jakarta, said he regularly celebrates New Year’s in Yogyakarta with his family. He described the city as offering comfort, security, and hospitality that make him want to return year after year.
“The city is beautiful, bustling, safe, and the people are friendly. My family always enjoys celebrating New Year’s here,” he said on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Heriyanto added that Malioboro remains his favorite spot because of its lively atmosphere. The variety of entertainment, culinary delights, and nightlife ensures the area never loses its appeal.
Meanwhile, Ananda Abanat, a visitor from Palembang, chose to spend New Year’s Eve at the Tugu landmark. He said the area was ideal for relaxing with friends while enjoying the city’s nightlife.
“Around the monument, there are many hangout spots, such as angkringan [traditional food stalls] and kopi joss [coffee served with burning charcoal]. The atmosphere is fun for chatting while waiting for the new year,” he said.
As the countdown approaches, tourists typically spend their time strolling through the city, sampling local cuisine, and taking photos together. This sense of togetherness keeps Yogyakarta vibrant and full of stories at every New Year’s celebration. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
