Indonesian Cycling Federation Gears Up for Asian Games 2026, Olympics

KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Cycling Federation (ISSI) has pledged to raise the performance of its athletes, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games and 2028 Olympic Games.

“At the start of next year, we will carry out a complete transformation and overhaul, both in terms of coaches and athletes,” said PB FSI Secretary-General Jadi Rajagukguk during the Dinamika Olahraga program on RRI Pro 3, Monday, December 29, 2025.

He called on provincial branches of ISSI to submit data on their best athletes, which will be used in the selection process for the national cycling team. “We will also increase the number of competitions across all disciplines, mountain bike (MTB), road race, and BMX. These will be our focus in 2026,” he explained.

Jadi noted that within the next five to six months, preparations must intensify for the Asian Games and Olympics. “At the LA Olympics, we are targeting medals,” he said.

He added that this medal target was conveyed during a meeting with Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir, who confirmed that cycling is among the priority sports expected to deliver medals. “We will meet the Minister again to present our blueprint for the 2028 Olympics,” Jadi continued.

He assured that the federation has already mapped out potential athletes for multi-sport events such as the Asian Games and Olympics, supported by a tiered development system.

To strengthen preparations, Jadi said the federation will expand the number of events and is also considering the naturalization of foreign cyclists. “This is still under review to see if it is possible under Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regulations. Next year, we are preparing around 25 tryouts,” he revealed.

At the recent SEA Games in Thailand, Indonesia secured a total of 11 medals (3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze). Previously, Minister Erick Thohir expressed hope that the Central Board of Executives (PB ISSI) would also establish strong programs.

“We are pushing 17 sports across all international events, and cycling is one of the options included among those 17,” the Minister stated in an official release from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
