Japanese Embassy Offers Non-Degree Scholarships for Indonesian Teachers

KBRN, Jakarta: The Japanese Embassy in Jakarta has opened applications for a non-degree scholarship program for Indonesian teachers to study in Japan. Recipients will undergo one and a half years of training focused on teaching methods and the development of effective lesson plans.

In addition, participants will receive instructional materials designed to enhance teaching quality and professional skills. The program will run from September/October 2026 through March 2028.

To qualify, applicants must meet several requirements. They must be Indonesian citizens born on or after April 2, 1991, actively teaching at a formal institution, and have at least five years of teaching experience by October 1, 2026. Upon completing their studies in Japan, recipients are required to return to Indonesia and continue their careers as teachers.

During their time in Japan, scholarship holders will receive full coverage of tuition fees until the program concludes, along with a monthly living allowance of approximately 143,000 yen. They will also be provided with round-trip airfare between Indonesia and Japan and exempted from student visa application fees. The Embassy has confirmed that there will be no service bond attached to the scholarship.
