Tokyo Pop-up Store Showcases Indonesian Creative, Manufacturing Products

KBRN, Jakarta: As 2025 drew to a close, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo launched a promotion of Indonesian creative and manufacturing products through the Discover Indonesia Popup Store at Hibiya, Tokyo. The exhibition ran from December 22 to 26, 2025.

Organized in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the event was officially opened by the Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Maria Renata Hutagalung, accompanied by Trade Attaché Merry Astrid Indriasari.

“This popup store highlights Indonesia’s creative and manufacturing products, ranging from leather accessories and bags to fashion apparel, jewelry, and footwear. It not only introduces the diversity of Indonesian craftsmanship to Japanese consumers but also helps market these products more widely,” Maria explained.

She added that prior to the event, the Embassy and the Ministry of Trade carried out a curation and product pitching process, selecting 14 Indonesian brands to participate.

“This promotion allows business owners to directly set retail prices for Japanese consumers in line with local regulations. Moving into 2026, the Embassy will continue working with partners to expand the promotion of Indonesian creative products in Japan,” she said.

Maria also encouraged Indonesian artisans to keep innovating, improve product quality, and comply with Japanese standards.

One of the participants, Ronaldiaz Hartantyo (35) from MyCL, presented bags made from seaweed and mushroom leather at his factory in Nagano Prefecture. The company has signed an MoU with JR West, with its algae-based MyLea pouches selected as merchandise for green car passengers on the Shinkansen.

“MyCL’s products and materials are marketed not only in Indonesia but also in Japan, Europe, Australia, and Hong Kong. We truly appreciate the Embassy’s initiative in the Discover Indonesia Popup Store, which provides an important platform for Indonesian brands like ours to connect directly with the Japanese market,” Ronaldiaz said.

Alongside MyCL, Discover Indonesia also featured Calla the Label, which pledged to donate all proceeds to disaster relief in Sumatra. Other Indonesian brands participating included Felistianova Mutche and Ittaherl. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
