Indonesia Expresses Concern Over Military Escalation in Eastern Yemen

KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring a fresh surge of hostilities in Yemen as separatist movements and the withdrawal of foreign coalition forces threaten to destabilize the nation further.

The escalation centers on unilateral military movements by the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which has reportedly made territorial gains in the eastern governorates of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah. These developments come at a volatile time, following reports that Saudi Arabian forces have begun evacuating their long-standing headquarters in Aden.

In an official statement released via their social media account on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the Ministry emphasized the potential for this shift to exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in the region.

"Indonesia is closely following the development of the situation in the Republic of Yemen, including in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra," the Ministry stated on its official X account, @Kemlu_RI, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

The Ministry further expressed deep concern regarding the rising tensions, noting that such instability could "worsen security conditions and increase the suffering of the Yemeni people."

The reported territorial advances by the STC coincide with a significant change in the military landscape. According to reports from various news agencies, Saudi forces have moved equipment from the Arab Coalition command headquarters in Aden toward Hadhramaut, near the Saudi border.

The withdrawal marks a pivotal moment for the coalition that has supported Yemen’s internationally recognized government since 2015. Sources in the Aden city government indicated that large trucks were seen transporting the final pieces of military equipment, signaling an end to the coalition's presence in the western districts of Aden. ***
