KBRN, Labuan Bajo: Real Madrid expressed condolences on Sunday, December 28, 2025, following the death of Fernando Martín Carreras, coach of Valencia C.F. Women’s B team, who perished along with three of his children in a tourist boat accident near Padar Island, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
“Real Madrid C.F., along with its president and Board of Directors, expresses its deepest condolences for the passing of Fernando Martín, coach of Valencia C.F. Women’s B, and his three children, in a tragic boat accident in Indonesia,” the club said in an official statement, as reported by Antara.
The club also extended sympathies to Martín’s wife, Andrea, and daughter, Mar, who survived the accident.
Martín, 44, died when the KM Putri Sakinah, a tourist vessel, was struck by high waves on Friday evening, December 26.
According to Stephanus Risdiyanto, head of the Labuan Bajo Port Authority, the boat had been on a tour to Kalong Island in Komodo National Park before heading to Padar Island for trekking. The accident occurred during the journey to Padar.
Authorities confirmed that 11 people were on board: seven Spanish tourists, four crew members, and a tour guide. Four crew members, including the captain and the guide, survived. Two of the Spanish survivors were Martín’s wife and daughter.
A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team has expanded its operation to locate the four missing Spanish nationals, all members of Martín’s family. The search entered its third day on Sunday, December 28, following the boat’s capsizing in rough seas.
“The joint SAR team has expanded the search radius to 5.25 nautical miles from the site of the incident,” said Fathur Rahman, head of the Maumere National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
He added that additional resources, including the KN SAR Puntadewa, which carries 27 rescuers, were being deployed to support the operation. The vessel was expected to arrive in Labuan Bajo on Sunday night.
On Saturday, rescuers discovered debris from the vessel, including parts of the hull and the captain’s cabin, about five nautical miles from the accident site. Heavy rain, waves reaching up to 1.5 meters, and strong currents have hampered visibility and complicated the search. “Nevertheless, this has not deterred the dedication of the joint SAR team,” Fathur said.
Basarnas later confirmed that the four missing victims were members of one family: a father, his daughter, and two sons. The joint SAR team continues to scour the waters north of Padar Island from morning until evening, hoping to recover the remaining victims. ***
