KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian futsal squad captured the ASEAN U-16 Boys Futsal Championship 2025 crown after a thrilling 4-3 victory over host nation Thailand at Nonthaburi Hall on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The win not only showcased the young Garuda’s resilience under pressure but also marked Indonesia’s second major triumph on Thai soil this year, following the senior team’s SEA Games gold medal.
The tense match was held at Nonthaburi Hall, pitting two teams with high win records throughout the tournament against each other. Indonesia played with discipline and demonstrated tactical maturity under the home crowd's pressure, Antara reported.
Thailand took an early lead through Petchtiam Boonyarit's goal in the first minute. However, three minutes later, Indonesia's Hetson Messi equalized with a powerful shot that penetrated Thanatip's defense.
Both teams fought intensely until Boonyarit put Thailand back in the lead in the 17th minute. Towards the end of the first half, Muhammad Faisal Gumilang equalized with a stunning individual effort.
The 2-2 score at halftime proved to be a turning point for the Young Garuda. They appeared more solid at the start of the second half, particularly in ball possession and defensive positioning.
Indonesia's third goal came in the 26th minute through Dafa Ramadhan after a mistake by the Thai goalkeeper in blocking the ball. Two minutes later, Faisal scored his second goal, widening the gap to 4-2.
Thailand fought hard to catch up with a power play strategy. Boonyarit scored a hat trick with a free kick in the 38th minute, narrowing the score to 4-3.
Thailand's final attack was thwarted thanks to two crucial saves by goalkeeper Azmi Anugrah. This result confirmed Indonesia as the ASEAN U-16 Futsal Champion 2025 for the second time in Thailand.
This victory further solidified Indonesia's dominance over the host nation in futsal. Previously, the senior team also defeated Thailand in the 2025 SEA Games final, symbolizing the consistency of Indonesia's achievements at the regional level. ***
