Indonesia Repatriates Nine Nationals from Cambodia, Reinforces Protection

KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian government facilitated the repatriation of nine Indonesian nationals from Cambodia on Thursday (12/26/2025). It was carried out by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Nationals, in coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh and the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency.

In an official statement released on Friday (12/26/2025), the ministry stated that seven of the nine nationals had been in Cambodia for more than one year and were allegedly employed as scammers within online fraud networks operating in several areas.

All nine Indonesians were repatriated to Indonesia on a commercial flight from Phnom Penh to Jakarta, arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, at 6:50 p.m. WIB. Prior to their return, they had completed local immigration procedures, including deportation processing and the issuance of exit permits.

The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also facilitated the issuance of Emergency Travel Documents for six of the nationals as travel documents for their return to Indonesia.

The repatriated Indonesians were recorded as originating from several regions in Indonesia, namely West Java, Jakarta, Riau, North Sumatra, North Sulawesi, and Lampung.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the public to remain vigilant against overseas job offers that do not follow official procedures, in order to avoid the risk of exploitation and human trafficking crimes.
