RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian para archery team enters the 2025 ASEAN Para Games (APG) in Thailand with confidence, strengthened by a year-long training program and a clear medal target.
Head coach Rameez Ali Surya Negara said the team’s uninterrupted 12-month preparation has brought athletes to peak condition ahead of the regional multi-sport event, scheduled for January 20–26 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
“For now, we are targeting two gold medals, two silver, and three bronze. However, we are optimistic the final tally could exceed expectations,” Rameez said during a training session on Sunday, January 18, 2026, as quoted by
Antara.Para archery remains one of Indonesia’s strongest medal hopes and is central to the country’s long-term roadmap toward the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games.
Rameez explained that the sustained program emphasized physical conditioning, technical refinement, and competition simulations, ensuring athletes are prepared for the pressures of regional competition.
The squad consists of 10 athletes - six competing in recurve events and four in compound - selected through performance evaluations during the training cycle and upcoming competition schedules in Thailand.
Rameez also noted changes in the competition format at this year’s Games. To prepare, the team held internal trials, particularly for team and mixed events requiring strong coordination.
“The format is new and different from typical tournaments. It may reflect Thailand’s training system, but our team is ready because the formats used by Thailand and Indonesia are not significantly different,” he said.
Special attention is on Teodora Audi Ayudya Ferelly Esant, who has been set a target of two silver medals in the women’s single compound and mixed compound events.
Rameez hopes the team’s performance in Thailand will validate the year-long training program and reinforce para archery’s reputation as a reliable medal contributor for Indonesia in Southeast Asia.
Audi, one of Indonesia’s promising young para archers, said her biggest challenge lies within. “The biggest opponent is still myself,” she admitted during training in Nakhon Ratchasima on Sunday, January 18.

In 2023, she won gold in the women’s single compound event at the Asian Para Archery Championship in Bangkok, securing qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
While that achievement boosts her confidence, Audi emphasized the importance of managing personal pressure. She noted that the sandy surface at the Nakhon Ratchasima venue requires technical adjustments, from wheelchair positioning to maintaining shooting consistency in dry, dusty conditions. The Indonesian team has already tested the venue to adapt to these challenges.
Audi has also studied the strengths of her Southeast Asian rivals but believes mental readiness and technical execution will be decisive.
Reflecting on her journey, Audi shared that her path to international competition began during recovery from a serious accident at age 17, which left her paralyzed in the lower limbs. What began as therapy through para archery gradually evolved into a competitive career.
“If I can win a medal, it’s for all the people who have supported me,” she said, expressing determination to secure gold.
Looking ahead, Audi hopes her debut at the ASEAN Para Games will mark her best performance yet and contribute to Indonesia’s overall success. ***
