Ministry of Tourism Unveils Indonesia's Diving Wonders Directory

KBRN, Jakarta: Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has launched the Wonderful Indonesia Diving Directory, a comprehensive guide designed to help tourists and professional divers explore the country’s premier underwater destinations.

Unveiled at the ministry’s year-end press conference at the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the directory highlights not only the locations and advantages of Indonesia’s dive sites but also essential safety and security aspects.

It provides information on hospitals equipped with hyperbaric chambers, the readiness of the industry through certified dive operators, and a range of conservation-based tourism activities available around dive sites.

“This directory is expected to serve as an informative and educational guide for both tourists and stakeholders in developing safe, high-quality, and sustainable diving tourism,” Minister Widiyanti said, as reported by official Ministry of Tourism website.

The book categorizes dive destinations across Indonesia, with a particular focus on Eastern Indonesia, which lies at the heart of the Coral Triangle, the global epicenter of marine biodiversity.

Leading destinations featured include Bunaken in North Sulawesi, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi, Morotai in North Maluku, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, and Raja Ampat in West Papua.

“As the center of the world’s richest marine biodiversity, Indonesia carries both a responsibility and a significant opportunity to develop marine tourism. This directory is expected to support the promotion of marine destinations as a key driver of the Upgrading Tourism Program, while encouraging greater interest in conservation-based tourism that safeguards marine ecosystems,” Minister Widiyanti said.

In the near future, the Wonderful Indonesia Diving Directory will be accessible through the official tourism portal, indonesia.travel, serving as a shared reference for stakeholders in developing, promoting, and managing dive destinations in an integrated and sustainable way.

The digital platform is expected to make accurate information more accessible to tourists while strengthening collaboration between government, industry players, and local communities in maintaining the quality and sustainability of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems.

The launch was attended by Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa, along with senior officials from the ministry. ***
